Gentle Therapeutic Yoga for Health & Healing
Gentle therapeutic yoga is a restorative, relaxing practice that features a flowing sequence of supported yoga postures, breath work, and guided imagery to help manage the side effects of illness, reduce stress and support healing. Appropriate for all levels; no prior yoga experience is needed.

In addition to helping those with cancer reduce stress, research suggests that QiGong improves immune function, lymphatic circulation, energy levels, and treatment tolerance.

This can happen following surgery or radiation to the lymph nodes. Lymphedema can not be cured but it can be controlled. Join our Certified Lymphedema Specialist for a seminar to learn about lymphedema and how you can reduce your risk.

Painting the Pictures of Health
This painting class is a way for people to take a break from cancer, get lost in the creative process, and receive support and instruction on varied art materials and creative art techniques. No ability or previous art experience is necessary.

The Art of Flower Arranging
Florists have always known that fresh flowers make people happy, and now research also shows us that they have emotional and behavioral benefits! Join us for an interactive flower arranging demonstration, and take home a beautiful creation!

Healing Touch Appointments
Healing Touch (HT) is a non-invasive complementary therapy which utilizes light touch techniques to promote relaxation, and increase overall well-being. Research has shown that HT can be helpful in managing the symptoms and side effects of cancer and its treatment (such as pain, fatigue and nausea). It can also be used to relax and balance the body before surgery and to speed post-operative recovery.

Healing Sounds Circle Class
Researches show that music therapy has positive effects on blood pressure, heart rate, and anxiety and stress levels. Healing Sounds Circle is a relaxing experience using instruments like singing bowls, ocean drum, and many other percussion instruments that soothe the mind and body. This program is made possible by Julie Nadel in memory of Elly Nadel. Learn more about the Elly Nadel Music Therapy Program.

Strength After Breast Cancer - 4-week program
This four-week program provides education and strength training instruction to those at risk for developing lymphedema. Participants will meet twice a week and be supervised in a slowly-progressive and controlled strengthening program while being monitored for development of any lymphedema symptoms. They will be able to progress to an independent strengthening program at home or in a gym.
This program is based on results from the Physical Activity and Lymphedema (PAL) Trial, a one-year randomized controlled exercise intervention trial funded by the National Cancer Institute.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA - Exercise Program for Cancer Survivors
Class offered at four Santa Barbara County locations

In partnership with the Channel Island Chapter of the YMCA and the LIVESTRONG Foundation, the Cancer Center is proud to present this new exercise program for cancer survivors.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a twelve-week, small group program designed for adult cancer survivors. This program fulfills the important need of supporting the increasing number of cancer survivors who find themselves in the transitional period between completing their cancer treatment and the shift to feeling physically and emotionally strong enough to attempt to return to their normal life or their “new normal."

A final goal of the program is to assist participants in developing their own physical fitness program so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle, not only as part of their recovery, but as a way of life.

Well-Fit Exercise Program for Cancer Patients in Treatment
Research shows that exercise can combat common cancer-related side effects such as unwanted weight changes, low energy levels and loss of strength.

The Cancer Well-fit™ Exercise Program is designed for anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer in the past nine months and needs a boost getting back into shape. This 10-week program enables individuals to regain muscle mass and strength, improve endurance and increase flexibility. Participants will work with trainers in a small group setting to develop a personalized fitness routine.
